So how did this clothes designer extraordinaire come to be, you ask? Well, here is his story…
Erik grew up in the ultra-conservative town of Lodi, a small town with small town ideals and values that is located near Sacramento.
At a young age he worked as a delivery person at the Lodi Flower shop, his creative talents were soon noticed and he soon worked his way up to head designer. This also put Erik in contact with a wide variety of people, and Erik discovered that he also had a natural affinity to heal people. This led him to the study and practice of Reiki. Erik developed a knack for channeling healing energy and was very effective in helping people cope with difficult life situations, often making them pendants, bracelets, earrings and other such items with therapeutic potential. As his reputation and his clientele grew Erik realized that Lodi was too small for him and he decided to move to "the city" -- San Francisco!
Bursting with creative energy he decided to enroll in the fashion design program at FIDM and graduated in 1999 after 2 years of hard work.
Working as an independent artist, he started making pillows, pillow shams and duvet covers as well as making his own personal clothes.
By this time people were already asking him if he would make clothes for them, but Erik felt he was not yet ready. It was 2002 when he finally agreed to make a hat for a friend. Of course, this led to more hats and then other items for the same friend and then his friends, and then their friends.
Soon Erik was making costumes for dancers, drag queens,
Burning Man folks and a couple of well-known prostitutes. He then started
experimenting with what he calls "clothing reconstruction" where he takes
existing garments, either new or old, and combines them with custom design
elements to create new "one of a kind" clothing items. The first pair of pants
that he reconstructed was a composite of two pairs of men's old work pants that
he combined together. This item was literally purchased of off his body when he
wore them out one day. Ever since that experience in 2001, Erik has been honing
his reconstruction technique and style.
Erik's line of clothing is called "5 Earth Star" after his Feng Shui personality
type based on his birthday. Erik has a list of clients that he designs "one of a
kind" clothing items for and feels that he is now ready for the wider world, and
that the world is ready for 5 Earth Star! If you would like to have a custom
fitting or an item from your closet that needs to be "reconstructed" please
contact Erik for more information. He is currently relocating from San Francisco
to Los Angeles and will soon have clothes in a store that best represents his
interesting and unique style.
